La mexicana Andrea Meza fue coronada el domingo como Miss Universo en una gala celebrada en un hotel de lujo a las afueras de Miami que se convirtió en una «fiesta latina», pues la primera y la segunda finalistas fueron Miss Brasil, Julia Gama, y Miss Perú, Janick Maceta.
Meza, una ingeniera de software de 26 años, lleva así la tercera corona de Miss Universo a México, después de Lupita Jones, quien ganó en 1991, y Ximena Navarrete, quien logró el título en 2010.
Miss México, oriunda del estado norteño de Chihuahua, se había destacado desde los primeros días de la competencia, que tuvo lugar en el Seminole Hard Rock Hotel y Casino, situado en la ciudad de Hollywood, situada a 36 km al norte de Miami.
Andrea ya tenía experiencia previa en varios concursos de belleza. En 2017 representó a México en Miss Mundo, concurso en el que obtuvo el segundo lugar.
Es activista social, trabaja en organizaciones femeninas y es embajadora de turismo de Chihuahua.
Andrea Meza se lució en la pasarela del pasado jueves durante un show previo a la final de Miss Universo, en el que lució un traje típico alusivo a un alebrije.
Entonces posó con una obra de arte confeccionada con colores llamativos como el rosa, morado, azul, amarillo, verde y rojo, en conjunto con un jumpsuit transparente con bordados y pedrería, reseñó el portal mexicano Quien.com.
En la cabeza usó un voluminoso alebrije con lentejuelas y plumas exóticas, que también adornaron sus alas y botas.
